My TV Drama Task

For my 'TV Drama Task' I chose to write about The Walking Dead as it's one of my favourite shows currently.

If you haven’t heard of The Walking Dead it’s an American horror TV drama that follows a group of survivors in a zombie apocalypse as they try to stay alive, find shelter and get food; but it’s not only the zombies that they should fear as some other survivors will do just about anything to live.

I originally wanted to watch The Walking Dead when it first debut on TV because of the dramatic and exciting storyline that was depicted by the trailer that I had randomly found online. However it was only last year that I actually began to watch the show because I had recently taken out the free 30 day trial with Amazon Prime and saw the advertisement for it on the home page. At that point there was also a lot of hype from my friends and also the media was advertising it a lot.

Some shows are loved because of their believability for example NCIS and Hawaii Five-O which are clearly exaggerated like all TV drama but I do think they are quite realistic. Obviously there is the clear fact that there aren't zombies roaming the streets so in a way it’s not believable but I do think that the characters emotions and reactions have an air of truth to them and I often find myself agreeing with their decisions because I think that’s what I would do in that situation. I do think that believability is important because that’s what gets you so hooked, you start to imagine yourself in those situations, how you’d react, how you’d survive.

Whilst watching, I found parts of my personality in many of the characters; because of this I agreed with their decisions – it made me want to keep on watching so that I could carry on with their journey. I think because of this, it's why I love it so much, sure I got annoyed at the program and definitely disheartened when they killed people off and characters turned out to be evil but it’s part of the excitement and the pure addiction to carry on watching.
